Partnerships

Office of Risk Management and Insurance Research (ORMIR) AXIS has partnered with the Office of Risk Management and Insurance Research at the University of Illinois to provide students with useful resources and programs listed below that can help to gain experience and build future careers.

AXIS Risk Management Academy The AXIS Risk Management Academy was established to provide research opportunities, along with professional development resources and experiences, for students interested in risk management careers. The Academy equips students with new and exceptional sets of skills, in a culture of multidisciplinary education, student-led program discovery, and problem solving. Along with all these programs and resources, the Academy also provides one scholarship per year.

Student-led Consulting Projects Through the contribution to ORMIR, AXIS gains access to student-led consulting groups who provide high quality research and analytics. In the past the consulting projects have dealt with data analytics change management, the role for data analytics in the insurance industry, underwriting, and collaborations between Gies College of Business and AXIS corporate education.

Scholarships Each year, ORMIR awards an AXIS Scholarship to a deserving students who have demonstrated an interest and aptitude for pursuing study in risk management and insurance.

Faculty Research Through ORMIR, AXIS engages University of Illinois professors in academic research that will contribute to the understanding of risk management and help to address the challenges of providing insurance and reinsurance to increasingly vulnerable global populations and further our thought leadership. ORMIR is also interested in creating innovative risk management education programs to provide students with the background, knowledge and skills required to lead organizations in proactively managing risk and building resiliency.

AXIS ORMIR Student Challenge Each year AXIS hosts a problem-solving challenge competition in which students can compete for cash prizes. Previous challenge topics have been hackathons, app creations, security class action frequency models, and statistical curve fitting utility.

AXIS ORMIR Risk Management Symposia AXIS and ORMIR administer an annual symposium on various risk management topics. In the past we have featured the topics of natural disasters, the future of insurance, and climate risk. We invite clients to hear academic and industry experts lead panel discussions.

National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) AXIS became an NCSA Industry Partner in 2018 and is able to leverage NCSA's globally recognized team of domain experts in modeling and simulation, bioinformatics, data analytics, code optimization, cybersecurity, and visualization to further our understanding of risk and data visualization capabilities. NCSA offers some of the world's largest HPC compute resources, including iForge, NCSA’s industrial cluster, and Blue Waters, their massively scalable open science machine.
