CEO, AXIS Re
Steve Arora joined AXIS in January 2018 as CEO of its reinsurance business. Mr. Arora came to AXIS from Swiss Re where he spent 18 years in a variety of senior positions, most recently as Head of Casualty Reinsurance and as a member of the Reinsurance Executive Committee. He has held positions in New York, Munich, London, Tokyo and Zurich, and his expertise crosses Finance, Risk Management, Underwriting, and General Management. In his most recent role at Swiss Re, Mr. Arora led a 250 person organization that spanned the Company’s global network of offices. Previously he served as President and Managing Director of Swiss Re Japan, where he had oversight of the Company’s entire Japanese platform. Previously, he held senior-level positions in Swiss Re’s New York and Zurich offices where he led cross-functional global teams while building the Company’s engineering business unit and infrastructure across the U.S., Latin America, Canada and the Caribbean. Mr. Arora began his career at GE Insurance Solutions where, prior to its acquisition by Swiss Re in 2006, he held positions across the Company’s Philadelphia, London and Munich offices.
Jonathan M. Colello
President North America, AXIS Re
Jon Colello was appointed President North America for AXIS Re in May 2018. In this capacity, he is responsible for AXIS Re’s underwriting platforms in Bermuda, Canada and the United States, and serves as a member of the Reinsurance Leadership Team. Previously, Mr. Colello served as President and Chief Underwriting Officer, US, for AXIS Re and was responsible for managing the US underwriting operation. Mr. Colello has held several leadership positions within AXIS Re since joining the company in 2004. He has nearly 20 years of (re)insurance experience, and also held roles at Odyssey Re and AXA Re. Mr. Colello received an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Vermont.
President EMEA & LatAm, AXIS Re
Jan Ekberg serves as President EMEA and LatAm for AXIS Re. He has spent more than 40 years in the (re)insurance industry, with over 20 years of experience of managing underwriting business units. In 2018, Mr. Ekberg served as Interim CEO of AXIS Re. Mr. Ekberg joined AXIS Re in 2004 shortly after the formation of European operation, and has been integral to establishing AXIS Re as a leading global reinsurer. During his tenure at AXIS Re, he has led both the Property Risk and Engineering teams. Before joining AXIS Re, Mr. Ekberg served in various underwriting and management positions at Nordisk Re in Copenhagen; Employers Re; and at GE Frankona in Munich. He spent the first nine years of his career in primary insurance.
President Global Markets, AXIS Re
Ann Haugh was appointed President Global Markets, at AXIS Re in November 2018. In this role, she oversees AXIS Re Strategic Partners, global Specialty Re and AXIS Re’s international business platform in the Lloyd’s market. Ms. Haugh joined AXIS Re from the international insurance services firm Thomas Miller, where she was Group Chief Operating Officer and a member of the Thomas Miller Holdings Board. Prior to Thomas Miller, Ms. Haugh spent three years at Aspen Insurance Group, where she held a number of senior underwriting and operations leadership positions, including President, International Insurance; Global Chief Operating Officer and Chief Underwriting Officer for the company’s insurance operation; and a member of the company’s Group Executive Committee. Previously, she spent six years at Zurich Insurance, where she was most recently worldwide Group Chief of Staff, with earlier roles as CEO, Global Corporate UK, and Global Chief Operating Officer for the company’s Global Corporate division. Ms. Haugh was also Chief Underwriting Officer & Chief Operating Officer, Executive Liability, for Arch Insurance. She began her career as a Financial Lines Underwriter working at Zurich U.S. and Great American Insurance Company, where she gained experience in underwriting and operations, both in the U.S. and internationally.
President Asia, AXIS Re
Les Loh was named President Asia at AXIS Re in May 2018, and is based out of the company’s Singapore office. He was previously Deputy Chief Underwriting Officer, Asia. Mr. Loh, who joined AXIS Re in 2009, focuses on developing and underwriting treaty business in the Asia-Pacific market and leads growth initiatives in the region. He brings more than 20 years of experience in the (re)insurance industry. Prior to joining AXIS Re, he worked at Benfield Asia where he held various broking positions. Mr. Loh’s first reinsurance underwriting position was with Korean Re. Mr. Loh started his insurance career at Sumitomo Marine, where he focused on marketing and underwriting Japan-related accounts. Mr. Loh holds a Bachelor of Business Studies (Insurance) degree from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
Robert J. Looney
Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer, AXIS Re
Rob Looney was appointed Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer of AXIS Re in November 2011 and, prior to that, served as Global Finance Director for AXIS since 2010. For the 12 years preceding his employment at AXIS, Mr. Looney led the insurance investment banking efforts at KeyBanc Capital Markets and Advest Inc., where he had extensive experience in capital raising and merger & acquisition transactions. Earlier in his career, Mr. Looney was a senior manager in the Business Assurance Group at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, where he managed the audits of several large publicly traded multinational reinsurance and insurance companies. Mr. Looney is a Certified Public Accountant and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy from Villanova University and his Master of Business Administration from Columbia Business School.
Chief Underwriting Officer, AXIS Re
Megan Thomas joined AXIS Re in May 2018 as Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO). Ms. Thomas is responsible for portfolio and product management and leads the Reinsurance Products division, which includes the Product Center, Cat Modeling and Actuarial Pricing and Structured Re teams. Prior to joining AXIS Re, Ms. Thomas spent 12 years at AIG, where she advanced to hold a succession of CUO positions while working in the company’s New York and Bermuda offices. Most recently, Ms. Thomas served as Global CUO of Liability Lines for AIG in New York. Prior to that, she held the dual position of CUO and Head of AIG Cat Excess Liability, based in Bermuda. Previously, Ms. Thomas held a variety of management and underwriting roles in New York in Excess Casualty as well as in claims. She began her career serving in private and public sector roles at multiple organizations within the Australian insurance and financial services industry.
Ms. Thomas holds both a Graduate Diploma of Business from the University of New England, New South Wales, Australia; and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Studies, Queensland University of Technology, Queensland, Australia. She is licensed to practice law in both New York and Queensland, Australia. Ms. Thomas also holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Economics from the University of Queensland, Queensland, Australia; and a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from Bond University, Queensland, Australia.
